I'm not sure if you have heard but there was a quite huge protest going on in the city center yesterday. According to BBC it was the biggest police operation in 25 years around this area. So that must tell you something. We were warned by our school not to go down to the city because no one was sure what was going to happen. As I’m obedient I didn’t go to the city center but I noticed that something was going on because there were three large police cars going past our building around the time when the demonstration was on.
But what is it all about? Well, as far as I know there are two somewhat political parties, The English Defence League (EDL) and Unite Against Fascism (UAF). Ok, they might not be as political but as I don’t know all the facts, I define them as political parties. Any way, they kept their demonstrations at the same time; UAF was more of a silent and stationary protest but the EDL acted more forcefully. If I have understood correctly EDL is someway against Islamic extremism but there is also an opinion that says that it’s much more that just against extremism.
Yep, but as I’m afraid of my on neck I will not be more judgmental. Everyone can make their own conclusions by reading more about these events.
Here is a few BBC links that are related to this;
